Child Assessment
Early Childhood Education Child Assessments
We feel detailed, ongoing feedback is invaluable in the assessment of any child. We base much of our curriculum around the Illinois Early Learning Standards as they are embedded into the lesson planning. They define what children should know and be able to do.
The Illinois Early Learning Standards are divided into:
- Language Arts
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
- Physical Development and Health
- The Arts
- Social Emotional Development
For example, if students collect and sort flowers by colors as part of a study, the following benchmarks would apply:
- Science 11.A.E.Ca- Uses senses to explore and observe materials and natural phenomena
- Mathematics 6.A.Eca- Uses concepts that include number recognition, counting and one-to-one correspondence.
There are many more benchmarks that would apply to just this one activity. However, these two were chosen as examples.

Each enrolled child at Sprouts Academy Preschool has an individual online portfolio displaying the above information through visual documentation imports. This secure, password-accessible program has the capacity to share individual child development through PDF exports during parent-teacher conferences.
