The Redwoods classroom is our Pre-Kindergarten room. The students and teachers engage in long and short term projects based on the Reggio Emilia Approach and the Emergent Curriculum. Projects and studies are initiated by the interests of the students and are implemented through documentation, observation, and questioning.

A typical Wednesday in the Redwoods begins with morning snack and free choice exploration. Students are given the chance to initiate their own activities and choose where they would like to spend their time as teachers facilitate, observe, and document throughout the morning. The rest of the day is spent at Erie Park playground or visiting the Urban Garden where children weed, water, plant, and harvest herbs, vegetables, and flowers. Before lunch, the class engages in a special Kindergarten Prep class where they focus on skills needed for success in Kindergarten and beyond. After lunch, some students go home while the rest lay down for quiet time. The afternoon session begins once nap time is over and is spent doing a variety of activities including spending time outdoors, circle time, and free choice activities.
