Hello, my name is Tiffany Mitchell and I was born and raised on the north side of Chicago. My love for early childhood began very early in life and I was fortunate to have parents that encouraged me to pursue a career education. Many people in my teaching journey have inspired me and helped me become the teacher I am today. My parents are first on the list. My Mom put her career on hold to become a full-time career for my siblings and I and my father worked at the Chicago Park District and the Boys and Girls Club as a physical education teacher. I am thankful for attending school in the Chicago Public System and by the time I reached High School I knew what I was going to follow in my father’s footsteps after I completed my education.
After graduating High School, I taught in Buck Town where I was guided by a lead teacher that helped me develop my own skills and ethos. I continued my study in this area and received my Child Development Associate Credential and Infant Toddler/ECE Credential certificates. Throughout my 26 years of teaching I have worked alongside and mentored many amazing teachers. In 2012 I worked at Little Gems International School Chicago. I enjoyed the challenges of a new school and curriculum and this job helped me make international teaching connections in Dubai, UAE and South Korea with former colleagues now teaching in these countries.
My many years of teaching has lead me to understand an outstanding educator has a perfect balance of firmness and understanding, guidance and freedom, of mentor and friend. I pride myself on my relationship with parents and their children. It is my philosophy that the best way for children to thrive and learn in a classroom environment is by a strong teacher, child and parent relationship. I foster independent learning and encourage children to take risks through play and learning activities I provide within my classroom. It is upmost importance to me that I provide your child with a safe and secure learning environment that enables them to reach their full learning potential. After all these years it warms my heart to be greeted by young men and women eager and happy to ask me if I remember them and tell me stories about their memoires they had of their preschool years being in my class. There is simply nothing like it and is priceless to a teacher! I am excited to be your child’s teacher at Sprouts Academy Preschool and look forward to meeting you.
