Jennifer Spinks – B.S. Early Childhood Education – Redwoods

Hi! My name is Jennifer Spinks, and I am ecstatic to be co-teaching in the Redwoods class! I have known since elementary school that I wanted to be teacher and I know Sprouts will be a perfect fit.

I commenced my career working with children at the ripe old age of twelve. My twin sister and I started the “Super Spinks Sisters Babysitting” business and offered our services to families in our neighborhood. Years later, my high school course work in child development and summer jobs as a camp counselor would further establish my passion for the teaching profession. Throughout my college career, I completed my fieldwork experiences in several elementary schools as well preschools. I taught at a head-start program for at-risk children through One Hope United. Further, my clinical experience at Christopher House gave me the opportunity to work with various families from low-income backgrounds. All of these opportunities have provided me with the skill set to work with diverse groups of students that learn at various levels.

In 2011, I graduated from DePaul University with a bachelors of science in Early Childhood Education and began work at a NAEYC accredited daycare center in the north suburbs. After leaving the ‘burbs for the city, I spent the last two years at a Chicago Public School where I worked with kindergarten through third grade students.

In my free time, I enjoy baking all types of yummy desserts and sailing on Lake Michigan with my family. I also take pleasure in painting and drawing. To stay active and healthy, you can find me in the gym almost every day doing both cardio and weight lifting.

I look forward to working alongside highly experienced educators as well as meeting all of my students and their families!
